Most of my game i've seen wolves absolutely everywhere. except when i needed 4 wolf pelts to make some snow pants. then they where apparently exstincnt. yup it happened the same for me. i needed 4 jaguar pelts so i went to a area that has them. 2 hours later i found 3 jaguars and 20 "rare" black jaguar. Other times, a rare animal shows up almost instantly. i tamed one this morning, it was in the south mountain area. i'll google the map real quick and edit back in the location. can't find a good map with the locations listed, but if you follow the river leading out of the central lake to the south, there are mountains there.
